Ian Andersen is the Interim Department Head of Communication Arts and an Associate Professor of Acting and Voice at Valdosta State University. He holds a BFA from the University of Colorado – Boulder and an MFA from the University of Alabama.
Ian currently serves as Vice President of the ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓÆµ Theatre Conference, as well as Vice President of States and ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓÆµ State Representative for the Southeastern Theatre Conference. He is a proud member of the Society of American Fight Directors, Actors’ Equity Association, and the G.E.O.R.G.I.A. Fellows.
As both an artist and educator, Ian’s research focuses on outdoor classical theatre, the activation and support of classical texts, and contemporary approaches to poetic performance. At Valdosta State, he teaches a wide range of courses, including Acting II, Acting for the Camera, Period Styles, Stage Combat, Dialects and Voice and Diction.
With over two decades of professional acting experience, Ian has performed with companies such as Peach State Summer Theatre, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, American Players Theatre, the Arvada Center, and Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company, as well as Off-Broadway at Theatre Row. His recent on-camera work includes roles in The Coming, That Dog Will Hunt, and Repair the Breach. As a fight choreographer, his work has been seen at theatres across the country.
